Please note that the Art Academy will remain closed for the winter holiday the following week of December 24 through 28 and Monday, December 31 and Tuesday, January 1. Staff will return to the offices on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

 Art Academy students Karla Bates (AAC’15) and Jessie Fisher (AAC ’15) each recently received a scholarship from The League of United Latin American Citizens, Cincinnati Chapter. The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), founded in 1929, is the oldest and most widely respected Hispanic civil rights organization in the United States of America. LULAC was created at a time in our country’s history when Hispanics were denied basic civil and human rights, despite contributions to American society.

AAC Liberal Arts Professor Jay Zumeta has recently published an article entitled Historical Perspectives on Aesthetics at AEQAI.com. Zumeta currently teaches in the Art Academy's Liberal Arts and Art History Departments. To read his full article please follow this link to AEQAI.  AEQAI is a Cincinnati-based e-journal for critical thinking, review and reflective prose on contemporary visual art.

AAC Alumnus Matthew Shelton '99 returned to Cincinnati in early September to present his art and music at Rohs Street Cafe. Twenty lightboxes along with older works  were exhibited. Shelton, now a Chicago resident, also presented musical work in conjunction with the exhibition. His lightboxes have also been recently displayed in places such as downtown Chicago's Harold Washington Library. Rising AAC Design Senior Jordan Umberly's poster design was chosen for the CiTiRAMA 2012. This year's CiTiRAMA is Virginia Place in Northside. The Art Academy is proud to partner with The Home Builder's Association of Greater Cincinnati in the creation of the poster,  Click here for more information on Virginia Place.

2012 Community Education Faculty Exhibition(current) Works by Art Academy Community Education faculty are now on view in Pearlman Gallery. This exhibition will be available for viewing through July 13, with Final Friday Reception on May 25, 5-8 pm. Please call 562-6262 for gallery hours during the summer.

2012 AAC Commencement! President John M Sullivan, the Art Academy's new President presided over graduation on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Memorial Hall. The 44 BFA graduates and 4 MAAE graduates were led by a mounted policeman and bag piper from the Art Academy's Jackson Street campus to Memorial Hall. The commencement speaker was Tracy Kamerer, AAC alumna('86).  Ms. Kamerer is currently the chief curator at the Flagler Museum of Art in Palm Beach, Florida. She  was also awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award during the ceremony. Click here to read the commencement address. Julio Labra was the BFA Valedictorian and Jonathan Juravich was the MAAE speaker. Following the commencement ceremony, a reception sponsored by the Alumni Association, was held in the Art Academy Commons. Congratulations to our graduates! 
 

2012 Graduation Exhibition(past) is now on view in Convergys and Pearlman Galleries. This exhibition highlights the work of  students receiving the BFA and MAAE degrees on Saturday, May 12, 2012. The exhibition cintinues through May 12 and closes after the graduation ceremony and reception.

Art Academy Students Megan Bickel & Nathanael Green will represent the Art Academy Art History Major in the Third Annual Dr. Jonathan Riess Undergraduate Art History Colloquium on Saturday, April 14 at the University of Cincinnati's DAAP. Art history students from five local/regional institutions will represent the Art Academy, University of Cincinnati, University of Kentucky, Thomas More College, and the College of Mount St. Joseph.

Megan Bickel will present her paper "Places with a Past: New Site-Specific Art at Charleston's Spoleto Festival" and Nathanael Green will present his paper "Dragon's Teeth: The Land and the Male Body in the Art of the Nazis and the New Deal". The program will begin at 9:30 am and will conclude after 3 pm.

Art Academy Announces Its Accreditation Renewal Process And The HLC Team Evaluation-
April 16-18, 2012(current)

 The Art Academy of Cincinnati will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit April 16-18, 2012, by a team representing The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The Art Academy of Cincinnati has been accredited by the Commission since 1990. Its accreditation is at the Bachelor's degree level in Fine Arts as well as a Master's degree level in Art Education.

The Higher Learning Commission is one of six accrediting agencies in the United States that provide institutional accreditation on a regional basis. Institutional accreditation evaluates an entire institution and accredits it as a whole. Other agencies provide accreditation for specific programs. Accreditation is voluntary. The commission accredits approximately 1100 institutions of higher education in a nineteen-state region. The commission is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Art Academy Open House and Portfolio Review Day for High School Seniors & Transfer Students- Saturday, November 12, 2011(past)

Art Academy Professor Paige Williams has seven paintings on view in the Riffe Gallery exhibition Artful Teaching, curated by Dominique H. Vasseur, Curator of European Art at the Columbus Museum of Art. This exhibition offers viewers a unique glimpse into the legacy of Ohio arts by highlighting the work of 12 painters who teach in Ohio institutions of higher education. The exhibition is on view November 3, 2011through January 8, 2012, with opening reception Thursday, November 3, 5-7pm. Curator Vasseur will lead a tour of the exhibition on Friday, November 4 from noon to 1pm.

AAC students will observe Constitution Day this year on Thursday, September 15th.  Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by the nation's founding fathers on September 17, 1787

All students are invited to visit the Commons starting at 11:00 am. and enjoy some refreshments, pick up your pocket size copy of the US Constitution and browse through the informational posters!
