Art Academy Professor Jay Zumeta was appointed Consulting Curator for the Reinstallation of the ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman Collections at the Cincinnati Art Museum. The Reinstallation materialized after the deinstallation of The Collections: 6000 Years of Art which had been on view since December, 2011.
Professor Zumeta began working with now retired Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs, Anita Ellis, using his extensive knowledge to target the finest pieces in the Egyptian, Greek and Roman collections to create narratives that connect the histories and mythologies of these ancient cultures. After the curation, Zumeta worked with Chief Preparator and Art Academy alumna Kim Flora to determine the technical aspects of exhibiting the work. He then rewrote the label copy for the objects and finally wrapped up the project with Chief Curator, Cynthia Amnéus.
The Antiquities galleries are beloved by visitors and are very important facets to school groups who visit the Cincinnati Art Museum—specifically to tour and learn about the collections. Because of Zumeta’s work, visitors can walk through the galleries and see the infancy and maturation of these periods.
Installation was completed and opened to the public on August 29th and Zumeta trained the CAM docents on the exhibit in the month of October. To visit the the hard work of Professor Zumeta visit the Cincinnati Art Museum Tuesday-Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
