Come feel the words of esteemed poets Alex Lemon and Jenny Sadre-Orafai at a free public reading of their work beginning at 7:00pm on Thursday, October 9. This is the second reading of the 2014-15 Art Academy of Cincinnati Poetry Series, sponsored by the Liberal Arts Department. Following the reading their with be a short OPEN MIC for anyone who would like to share their work.
Alex Lemon is the author of Happy: A Memoir and four poetry collections: Mosquito, Hallelujah Blackout, Fancy Beasts and most recently, The Wish Book. His writing has appeared in Esquire, American Poetry Review, The Huffington Post, among others.
His awards include a 2005 Fellowship in Poetry from NEA and a 2006 Minnesota Arts Board Grant. Currently, he is an editor-at-large for Saturnalia Books, the poetry editor of descant and frequently writes book reviews for the Dallas Morning News. He lives in Ft. Worth, Texas and teaches at TCU.
Jenny Sadre-Orafai is the author of Paper, Cotton, Leather and four chapbooks. Recently her poetry has appeared in Linebreak, Eleven Eleven, Redivider,Thrush Poetry Journal, PANK, Rhino, The Bakery, Sixth Finch, ILK, iO: A Journal of New American Poetry, and Poemeleon. Her prose has appeared in The Rumpus, The Toast,Delirious Hem, The Los Angeles Review, and South Loop Review. She is co-founding editor of Josephine Quarterly and an Associate Professor of English at Kennesaw State University.
The reading will take place on October 9 at 7:00 pm in the Art Academy of Cincinnati’s 2N Quiet Study Area, located at 1212 Jackson Street, Cincinnati, OH, 45202. Lemon and Sadre-Orafair will also be available to answer questions and sign books. As always, coffee and fresh-baked robots will be available to take the edge off.
