GCCCU Recognizes Art Academy Assistant Professor Jimmy Baker

December 12, 2014

On November 7th, during the Celebration of Teaching luncheon, the Greater Cincinnati Consortium of Colleges honored some of the best Professors in the region with the Celebration of Teaching Award. Among them was the Art Academy of Cincinnati’s Assistant Professor, Jimmy Baker.

Voted unanimously for his dedication to higher education, Baker also is seen as a innovator in the contemporary art scene. Kim Krause, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Academic Dean & CAO, praised his faculty member for “…continuing to position his work at the leading edge of contemporary art and practice.”

Baker brings this experience to the classroom “along with his ferocious enthusiasm,” Krause said.

“I have dedicated a large amount of my professional life to working with students, and sharing real world experience with them. We have some of the most passionate and interesting students in the region. I wouldn’t teach anywhere else,” Baker states.

The GCCCU Celebration of Teaching award comes after Baker’s invitation into Crystal Bridges’ survey of American art, State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now.

Fall of 2004, Baker began showing in New York with Foxy Production and has since exhibited internationally. His work was featured in the Los Angeles Times, Artforum.com, Italian Vanity Fair, Art US, Artnet, Artslant, NY Arts, Artinfo, K48, New City Chicago, Cincinnati Magazine, Best Magazine, and Citybeat.

The Excellence in Teaching Award was created to recognize the top educators among Cincinnati’s 17 colleges and universities. The GCCCU’s mission is to promote higher education in the greater Cincinnati area.
